How Often Should I Get My Nails Filled?

Nails are always growing just like anything else on your body. So when you get nail extensions or overlays you will need to trim them at some point. This isn’t an arbitrary rule but necessary for your natural nail health!

Nails typically grow 3.5mm per month causing a gap between your cuticle area and whatever product you have on. Not only that but the entire structure of the nail that your technician built has moved from its original placement. Once moved far enough your nail can be at risk for breaking and damage if not filled in the proper amount of time. This is why your nail tech has you come back between 2-4 weeks.

The industry standard for a nail fill is 2-4 weeks whether you have acrylic, gel, gel-x, or anything of the sorts. After about a month your nail has grown so much that we need to rebalance it so it maintains its proper structure and strength. If left un-filled it is likely to lead to a broken nail.

Recently online there are many claims that some types of manicures can last 5-8 weeks. This is not normal for most clients. Yet with anything there are outliers. Here at Nychii Nails we do have clients that can wear their nails for longer periods of time but they have special genetics of longer and stronger nails than the average person. We also see the opposite. We commonly deal with clients who have chronic lifting issues and naturally weak or short nails. Those clients tend to stick with 2-3 week fill time.

It’s important to listen to licensed professionals with plenty of experience, all while taking into consideration your own nail type for deciding when to fill your nails.
